Huseni Dalan blasts : A method in the madness ?
Ever since two foreigners in two places of Bangladesh were murdered at a short interval in Bangladesh this month, the same posed questions since such happenings are extraordinary or a rarity in this country. Possibly, many people in Bangladesh on being asked would say that they cannot recall a single instance of a foreigner being killed in cold blood in this country in their living memory. Such is the friendliness and hospitality that this country shows to foreigners. Thus, the two murders just like bolts from blue, must have surprised everybody specially also because the two victims were known to be peaceful human beings who had not angered anybody.
It was unfortunate that the murders were spontaneously reacted to by a group of western countries mainly led by UK and USA. They raised security alerts on visit of their nationals to Bangladesh and even raised the level of such alerts despite holding meetings with our foreign office officials where they seemed to be apparently satisfied by the security measures taken in Bangladesh to prevent further such killings.
Interestingly, the diplomats in these meetings told our foreign ministers and others that they had reliable information about planned attacks against Western interests in Bangladesh. But interestingly again, they have reportedly not shared with our government the identities of these potential attackers or their motive that could be of great assistance to our law enforcers. Nonetheless, they have repeatedly underlined while talking to our media, government leaders and officials, how cooperative they wish to be in helping Bangladesh to combat the situation effectively.
Recently, two senior cabinet ministers of the Bangladesh government have questioned this conflicting attitude on the part of the Westerners. The Ministers observed that while the exaggerated reactions of the Western countries are hardly helpful, the same only cause a decline in the image of Bangladesh externally and undermines its vital interests in all respects. One minister remarked on Saturday that no sooner he drew attention to higher degree of lawlessness in some Western countries compared to Bangladesh that hand-made grenades were tossed in an assembling Shia procession at Huseni Dalan on Friday as if to prove a point that Bangladesh has been engulfed by a seriously deteriorated law and order situation.
Thus, it is not a case of ones imagination running riot when he or she says that there is a smell of conspiracy in all these with internal as well external dimensions. Otherwise, how can one explain this incident of tossing grenades at the Tazia procession in Bangladesh when there is no background of a serious enough Shia-Sunni conflict here. The Tazia procession has been coming out regularly and peacefully without suffering any attack for the last four centuries. So, why this departure now ?
