Speakers at a seminar suggested the commercial banks play a more proactive role to grow up entrepreneurship to expedite the country’s development.
They said banks have been making significant contribution to country’s economy, but they have more ability to propel the economy in line with government’s vision for a middle income country.
The seminar on “Fund Management for Banks and Entrepreneurship Economics” was organized by the Dhaka School of Economics (DScE), said a press release yesterday.
CM Koyes Sami, former Managing Director of Probashi Kalayn Bank, said Bangladesh economy is growing up well but Bangladesh bank needs to maintain transparency. He suggested a banking commission be set up to bring more transparency in the sector.
Professor Muhammad Mahboob Ali, DScE’s coordinator of entrepreneurship economics, said Bangladesh is now being developed with a real speed but to expedite the development further, decentralization of banks’ head offices in different areas are needed. He said a single
digit interest rate is a necessity and that is why spread rate should not be more than 2 per cent.
The other speakers at the seminar included Assistant Professor of DScE Sara Tasneem and entrepreneurial economist Md Jamal Hossain.
