Various forms of art have been an instrumental way of expression for thousands of years. Much can be said about a person on the way he or she portrays art. The forms of expression may change, but the core language remains eternally universal. Since invention of the camera, photography has become a prominent form of modern visual art.
In the annual Photo Contest 2015 organised by University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), an institution that highly values liberal arts, participants were invited to express themselves through the lens. The contest concluded through an exhibition where moments captured by participants were put on display.
With ‘Portrait’ as the theme this year, students of ULAB captured moments to be displayed in the exhibition. From the submissions, twelve best photos were selected by a panel of esteemed judges for the ULAB calendar 2016. Although a contest, it was essentially a celebration of photography as a form of modern art.
Every year, ULAB organises a theme based photo contest on a different theme each year to encourage its students to be actively engaged in this skill-based form of art. This time around, the photo exhibition was held on October 7, 2015 and October 8, 2015, with Prize Giving ceremony held on the October 8.
