It was after sunset, a queue of music fans was eagerly waiting at the capital’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre for a rock concert, ‘Yellow presents Sounds of Guns N’ Roses with Gilby Clarke’. Gilby Clarke, a former member of Guns N’ Roses, one of the top American rock groups from the 1980s, was about to perform for the Dhaka audience.
After about an hour’s wait, seeing Gilby Clarke and his fellow performers, Troy Patrick Farrell and EJ Curse, appear on the stage, the crowd went wild. The first words Clarke spoke: “Everyone, please come in front of the stage, its rock and roll!”
After hearing this invitation, the entire audience rushed to the front of the stage. Clarke and his band performed non-stop for about an hour and a half, rendering some of the biggest Guns N’ Roses numbers such as, ‘Sweet Child of Mine’, ‘Patience’, ‘Knock Knock Knocking on Heaven’s Door’ and ‘It’s So Easy’, along with some of his solo hits like, ‘Cure Me or Kill Me’, ‘Tijuana Jail’ and ‘Under the Gun’. He also performed covers of Beatles, Rolling Stones and Slash songs.
During the little break from one song to another, the band appreciated the rock lovers of Bangladesh for showing such enthusiasm.
Although there may be a small number of people who follow rock music in this country, a decent number of fans showed up for the event.
“My friend and I came together to enjoy the show. I was thrilled to see Gilby Clarke perform live. I wanted the show to go on for a little bit longer,” said Anik Farhan, a university student. “Kudos to the organisers and the sponsors for giving Bangladeshi rock lovers this wonderful opportunity to see Gilby Clarke,” he added.
Creinse Limited organised the event with sponsorship from Beximco-owned Yellow clothing company, in association with Microsoft Lumia, JB Group, AKhoni.com, Dhaka Foodies and other partners.
