Eight days into abduction from Satkania upazil of Chittagong, police rescued a nine-year-old boy from Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar early yesterday.
Police also arrested three Rohingyas for their involvement in the abduction of the boy, Imtiazur Rahman Sazzad, son of Mohammad Osman of Stakania upazila. However, the prime suspect managed to flee, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Chittagong AKM Hafiz Akter said at a briefing at his office.
The arrestees are Dudu Mia, 26, Khulla Mia, 35, and Abul Hashem, 25, hailing from Mongdu village of Akiab state in Myanmar.
On October 13, Sazzad was abducted from his house at Rasulabad Chowdhury Para of Satkania. Later, the abductors demanded a ransom worth Tk4 lakh through mobile phone banking service ‘bKash’.
After receiving Tk 30,000, the abductors threatened Sazzad’s family that the boy would be sold to traffickers in Myanmar if the whole sum is not paid. Later, Sazzad’s father lodged a case in connection. Police raided different areas of Ukhiya upazila after the filing of the case and arrested the three abductors. Sazzad was also rescued from their possession.
During primary investigation, the Rohingyas confessed to abducting the boy and said one Nur Alam, who managed to escape, is their leader, said the SP.
