Two members of outlawed Sarbahara Party were killed and three others injured in a ‘gunfight’ with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Moisha village under Tangail Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased are Baghil Union Parishad member Akbar Hossain, 45, and Manu Miah, 35, both members of the Sarbahara Party, said Mohiuddin Faruki, Tangail camp commander of RAB-12.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-12 raided a house at Moisha village where the outlaws were taking preparation to commit crime, RAB-12 commander said.
Sensing the presence of RAB members, the outlaws opened fire on the elite force forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
After the gun fight, five outlawed party members were bullet hit. Later, they were taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital (TMCH) where the duty doctors declared two of them dead.
The bullet hit outlawed members are identified as Chan Mia, 35, Raihan, 40, and Farid Hossain, 34.
The elite force also recovered one foreign-made pistol, one shutter gun, two rounds of bullet and some bullet shells from the scene.
Sub-inspector Manirul Islam was also injured in the gunfight and admitted to TMCH from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Later, he was taken to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka as his conditions further deteriorated.
