The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 match between two Asian giants Pakistan and Sri Lanka was abandoned due to rain without a ball bowled in Bristol yesterday. The game, scheduled to start at 10:30BST, was called off at 15:45 BST. After so much wait, the teams will finally share a point each - only the third in World Cup history - and have five from their opening three matches. Thanks to rain, for the first time Sri Lanka have avoided a defeat against Pakistan in a World Cup game. This was for the first time in the World Cup history that a full match was abandoned due to rain. Earlier, the match between West Indies and Afghanistan was held on curtailed over after a delayed start due to rain.
Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka bounced back after opening defeats this World Cup. Pakistan lost to the West Indies by seven wickets at Trent Bridge before beating England by 14 runs at the same venue on Monday.
Sri Lanka crashed to a 10-wicket defeat against New Zealand before pulling off a 34-run win against Afghanistan in a rain-affected game. All 10 teams play each other in a round-robin format, with the top four qualifying for the semi-finals. England play Bangladesh at Cardiff and Afghanistan face unbeaten New Zealand at Taunton today.
