The players by choice programme for recruitment of local and overseas players for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 3rd edition will be held at Grand Ball Room of the Raddison Blu Water Garden Hotel in the capital today at 10am.
Mahbub Anam, vice president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will conduct the programme as auction commissioner.
Private satellite television Channel 9, the right-holder of BPL broadcasters, will live telecast the event.
The players by choice is a closed door event, where the fate of all the local and foreign players will be decided.
A total of 130 local players, sans six icon players, have been registered. They will take part, splitting into four categories such as A, B, C and D, in the lottery. The icons will represent respectively for one of the franchises for the price tag of Tk 35 lakh, highest in the local players category.
Each team will take up 13 local players for their respective team that means only 78 players will get the chance to play in BPL.
A total of over 200 overseas players have been registered in the BPL-3 with players belonging to Grade A costing the highest, USD 70,000. On the other hand, players belonging to Grades B, C and D will earn USD 50,000, 40,000 and 30,000 respectively.
Each team will rope in 12 players in their own team that means only 72 players will be floated for selling. The franchises have access to take foreign players out of draft. But it is mandatory for every franchise to take three foreign players from Players by Choice. BPL governing council will bear the responsibility of payment only for the drafted players.
Meanwhile, all the franchises started appointing their coaching staffs from local and foreign stocks. Along with that, they have appointed foreign players for the team out of draft. The team started unveiling their logo and theme song through programme.
Dhaka Dynamites roped in veteran wicketkeeper-cum-batsman Kumar Sangakkara from Sri Lanka. They have made former cricketer-turn-commentator Athar Ali Khan and Jacob Oram as team manager and coach respectively.
Barisal Bulls will bring hard-hitter Chris Gayle, Brendan Taylor, Kevin Cooper and Evin Lewis to enrich their arsenal. They made South African Graham Ford as their coach.
Comilla Victorians appointed Mohammad Salahuddin as their coach. The team roped in Shoaib Malik from Pakistan.
‘Boom Boom’ Shahid Afridi and Rabi Bopara were appointed by Sylhet Superstars, while Rangpur Riders recruited Darren Sammy of West Indies.
