MoU signed to develop financial inclusion model

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday between Access to Information (a2i) Programme of Prime Ministers Office(PMO) and Bangladesh Post Office (BPO) aiming to develop a financial inclusion model to reach financial services to the doorsteps of the people, reports BSS.
Project Director of the a2i programme Kabir Bin Anwar and Director General of BPO ABM Humayun signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations at a function at the PMO here.
State Minister for Posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim, senior officaisl of the ministry and the a2i programme, among others, were present at the function.
Under the MoU, the a2i programme and the Bangladesh Post Office will build a joint partnership to develop and implement new services through postal-e-centres and digital centres.
A spokeswoman of the a2i programme said that under the MoU, various initiatives including providing technical assistances for strengthening postal e-centre and digital centre will be taken to implement financial inclusion model for service seekers in rural areas.
According to a press release of a2i programme, different financial services including electronic money transfer services of Bangladesh Post Office and postal life insurance will be expanded under the MoU. A postal bank also will be set up to ensure access of rural people to various financial services, it added.
