Stock markets closed the week lower yesterday amid sale pressure that the country’s twin bourses had been experiencing for many trading sessions. There will be no share trading today as the day falls in a holiday for Durga Puja, reports BSS.
The broader DSEX index at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) lost nearly 29 points to finish the short week at 4647.68 when the blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES lost marginally to 1762.55 and 1114.84 accordingly.
The daily average trade value also declined by 12.53 per cent to Tk 335.50 crore and the volume fell by 37.24 to 9.26 crore shares.
The week started with a steep cut in indices weighed by bank, real estate and pharma stocks, but showed some strength in the middle of the week on positive quarterly earnings hope.
The market, however, finally closed in red as earnings declared by some heavyweight were below the expectation of the investors.
The major gaining sectors were cement (0.26 per cent), food and allied (0.0088 per cent) and textile (.033 per cent). The major losing sectors were mutual fund (-0.53 per cent), bank (-0.44 per cent) and engineering (-0.33 per cent).
Top gaining companies were FEKDIL (19.4 per cent), Padma Life (16.7 per cent), Aziz Pipes (16.4 per cent) and Zeal Bangla (10.9 per cent).
The top losing companies were 3RDICB (-15.8 per cent) Anwar Galvanizing (-13.5 per cent) and Rahima Food (-13.3 per cent).
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended the week in red, with its CSCX index closing 18.78 points lower at 8636.58.
Out the day’s traded 230 issues, 101 closed higher and 95 lower when some 84 lakh shares changed hands for Tk 30.63 crore.
