Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said the government has taken an initiative to collect the toll of all the big bridges across the country through online, reports UNB.
The minister made the disclosure while talking to reporters after a meeting with the high officials concerned of the ministry at the Secretariat.
“An additional amount of Tk 30-35 lakh is now being collected from Meghna and Gomoti bridges each month as theft in toll collection has stopped. So, the government has decided to collect toll of all the big bridges like Bangabandhu Bridge through online,” Obaidul Quader said.
He also asked the authorities concerned to make the OS scales, set up on highways for measuring additional weight of vehicles, operative, and directed additional secretary Faruk Jalil to check the machines and informed the ministry about it by Sunday next.
