SYLHET: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the associate student body of the ruling Awami League, yesterday expelled three of its leaders of Sylhet district unit over a clash between two factions of BCL on the Sylhet Engineering College campus on Sunday night.
The expelled BCL leaders are Sylhet district joint secretaries HM Kamrul Islam and Sanjoy Chowdhury and member Mithu Talukder. Sylhet city unit secretary Abdul Alim Tushar confirmed the matter.
BCL central executive committee took the decision at its meeting on Tuesday night, Tushar added, reports UNB. Raihan Chowdhury, general secretary of the district unit of BCL, was injured in the clash between two factions of BCL on the Sylhet Engineering College campus in the city on Sunday night.
Witnesses said the clash took place between two feuding BCL groups on the campus around 11 pm over the announcement of their new campus committee of Sylhet Engineering College . Raihan, who was announcing the newly formed committee, was injured in the clash. The two groups also vandalised eight shops and restaurants in Tilagarh area of the city. Later, owners of damaged shops and restaurants filed two separate cases with Shah Paran Police Stationin Sylhet in this connection on Monday.
