The day-long seventh annual reception ceremony was held for the honour of‘ Pals and Kumars’ (sculptors and artisans of pottery and idols) at Aswini Kumar Town Hall in the city on Tuesday.
’Saptam Dakkhinanchaliya Mritshilpi Sammelon O Sanmanona-2015' organised the programme. An exhibition of traditional arts and crafts, including Nakshi Kathas, pottery works, handicrafts, photographs, paintings was also organised on the occasion. Dean of Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University Prof Nisar Hossain inaugurated the programme. The function was divided into two sessions.
District Puja Udjapan Parishad president Rakhal Chandra Dey presided over the first session in the morning and Akkas Hossain, cultural activist, presided over the second session of the programme in the evening.
DC Barisal Dr Gazi Md Saifuzzaman, attended the programme as the chief guest of the inaugural session.
Prof Ziaul Huq, Prof Imanul Hakim, Dr Kazi Mozammel Haque, Tanzim Ahmed, Shanti Das, Syed Dulal, Mrinal Kanti Saha, Narayan Chandra Dey Naru, Bappi Majumdar, Nazrul Biawas, educationist, cultural, community and professional leaders, addressed the sessions, among others. Crest, cash money, dress, colours and brushes were distributed among the 168 Pals and Kumars including 20 female artisans and their associates from different area of Barisal region.
