CONTROVERSIAL LEADERS IN CENTRAL BODY
BCL to declare 19 posts vacant

A total of 19 controversial leaders have been found in the newly formed 301-member central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL). According to BCL general secretary Golam Rabbani, the posts of these 19 people were set to be declared vacant by yesterday. However, no update on that was available while filing the report around 1:30am Wednesday.
Apart from this, the Dhaka University (DU) wing committee of the organisation will be announced tonight. A full committee will be declared either tomorrow or a day after the announcement of the Dhaka metropolitan north and south committees.
On May 13, the announcement of the full BCL central committee sparked controversy because of the induction of some controversial persons. On May 15, Awami League (AL) president Sheikh
Hasina asked for action against the controversial members of the committee. Later, at midnight, at a press conference held at the AL presidents office in Dhanmondi, BCL president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary Golam Rabbani asked for 24 hours to expel the controversial members. They also marked the names of 16 controversial members out of a total of 17 such members.
BCL announces DU wings full-committee today
The BCL central committee was announced on July 31 last year by a partial committee of the BCL Dhaka University unit.
According to the organisations constitution, the term of the university wing committee is one year. So, the DU wing BCL committee has tenure of two months.
Deprived ones go for sit-in programme
From the last Sunday night, the BCLs disgruntled leaders have taken positions on the footsteps of the Raju Memorial sculpture on the DU campus. They declared that they will continue their sit-in programme until the committee is reconstituted without all the controversial members.
