Quizzing of IO in blogger Wasikur murder trial June 20

A Dhaka court today set June 20 for cross-examination of investigation officer (IO) in a case lodged over the murder of blogger Wasikur Rahman Babu. The last IO of the case Shah Moshiur Rahman appeared yesterday before the court of Dhaka 3rd metropolitan magistrate Robiul Alam and submitted his testimony. The court then adjourned the hearing of the case till June 20. A total of 23 prosecution witnesses have testified in the case. Babu was murdered on his way to office from his Tejgaon Begunbari house on March 30, 2015. Police with the help of locals managed to detain two killers Zikrullah and Ariful Islam, red handed from the spot. Three machetes were recovered from their possessions at that time. Babus brother-in-law Monir Hossain on that day filed a murder case with Tejgaon Police Station and the detainees were later shown arrested in that case.
Hearing of Banani double rape case adjourned till June 25

A Dhaka court today adjourned till June 25 the hearing of a case lodged over allegedly raping of two private university students in Hotel The Raintree Dhaka at capitals Banani area in 2017. Yesterday was set for cross-examination of one of the victims. But the girl couldnt appear before the court due to illness, prompting the prosecution to file a time plea. Dhaka 7th women and children repression prevention tribunal judge Khadem Ul Kayes then adjourned the hearing, allowing the time plea. Police produced prime accused Safat Ahmed and Naim Ashraf before the court from jail, while Safats friend Sadman Sakif, bodyguard Rahmat Ali and driver Billal Hossain, who are on bail, also appeared before the court for the hearing. Safat, son of Apan Jewelers owner Dildar Ahmed, and his friends raped the two girls on March 28, 2017, bringing them to that hotel for joining a birthday party.
