Bangladesh were drawn in Group B along with Hong Kong China, Uzbekistan and hosts Singapore to compete in the eight-team AHF Cup Women’s Junior under-21 tournament scheduled to be held in Singapore from September 9–15.
Bangladesh, who for the first time will play the AHF Cup Women’s Under-21 qualifying round, will take on Hong Kong China in their opening match on September 9 and will face Uzbekistan on September 11 while their last match of Pool B, Bangladesh girls will play against hosts Singapore on September 12.
Pool A comprised of Kazakhstan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The top two teams of the eight-team qualifying phase from this tournament will qualify for the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2020 when the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2020 is itself a qualifier for the Hockey Junior World Cup 2021.
China, Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia and Thailand have already qualified for participation in the tournament directly based on their results in the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2015.
Meanwhile, ahead of participation in the tournament Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF has started residential camp of women’s team commencing with 50 players on May 14 under the supervision of Directorate of Sports at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
Mominul Haque Sayeed, the newly elected general secretary of the BHF handed Tk 5,000 each to 50 girls to inspire them to show better display and the senior vice-president of BHF Abdur Rashid Shikdar gifted new hockey sticks to the team.
