Cricket expert Nazmul Abedin Faheem said that the big target Bangladesh set before them in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in United Kingdom (UK) to do so they should focus more on those teams whom they have initially targeted to beat.
Faheem also said that they have to beat one or two big teams if they want to go into the next stage of the mega event after thrashing the initial targeted teams.
He added that they have needed to take a momentum for this what they can take beating their opening match rivals South Africa, who are possible to beat if they could play better brand of cricket.
“There is ifs and buts of stepping into the semi-finals and final stage of the World Cup. It’s not that we are on top priority team of going on that stage. For this, we should focus more on the three more teams whom we can beat,” said Nazmul Abedin Faheem.
“If we can start a good start, it might be possible. We’ve game against South Africa whom we can beat. If we can play better cricket, it’s then possible for us to beat them,” Faheem told The Independent.
“We’ve to go there with momentum. But if we want to go into the next stage of the World Cup, we have to beat one or two big teams. If South Africa will be that team, we will then get the momentum. Then it might be come for our benefit,” he added.
He warned Bangladesh team should not underestimate any team in the World Cup as there is no big difference between the strength of the participating teams in this showpiece event.
“There is no gulf of difference between the teams who are participating in this World Cup. If England will underestimate Afghanistan, it would not be so easier for them to win against them. Any team can beat any team in an event. We’ve seen it in warm-up practice matches,” he viewed.
“There will be an advantage for some teams. If we tell the names of England, Australia and India, they’ve much more experienced than the other teams. They’ve enough idea about Plan-A, B and C that will keep them tactically ahead. They know well how to surpass from the dangerous situation. It’d be easier for them to bounce back in the matches who handle the precarious situation well. And that we’ll get to see,” he continued.
He said that the team has the approach, temperament and mentality what are much-needed ingredient for the success in one-day cricket.
“Our senior players are our main strength. The experienced players could hold the nerve after being failed initially. The five senior most and experienced players we’ve could be helped our junior players in the team keep them in the match,” he said.
Despite having a batsmen-friendly track in England, every team has kept spinners. He explained the cause of keeping spinners, stating that they should keep three spinners beside their pacers.
“Swing is seen bigger on English condition in case of pacer. But we didn’t see such swing. The ball moves but we didn’t see it. Rather than spinners did well because every team has some batsmen who play spin well but most of the batsmen of that countries are not well against spinners,” he said.
“If you’ve good spin attack, you can surely control the game. I think, Afghanistan are being played three front-line spinners in their team. They start with spin attack. Probably that will be their tactic in the World Cup. I think.”
