Hosts Chittagong Abahani Limited began the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament with a sorry note when they went down to Kingfisher East Bengal by 1-2 in the second match at the MA Aziz Stadium in the Port City yesterday.
Mohammed Rafique and Prohlad Roy scored one each for East Bengal and the local side managed to reduce the margin through an own. East Bengal broke the deadlock on 22nd minute with Mohamme-dan Rafique beating Abahani goalkeeper Liton when the local defenders failed to clear a long ball sent from right side (1-0). After the break East Bengal became more attacking and looked more organised than the home team and also increased the tally. Prohlad Roy took the advantage of defenders lapses to slam home on 71st minute (2-0). The hosts managed to reduce one goal when a East Bengal defender shot into their post while trying to clear a Henmanta Vincent’s cross on 79th minute (1-2).
