Bangladesh’s first official World Cup warm-up match against Pakistan at the Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground in Cardiff was called off yesterday due to the inclement weather conditions. The toss of the 50-over match was scheduled to take place at Bangladesh Time 3:00pm but owing to the incessant drizzling, the proceedings were delayed. The cut-off time was pushed back to 4:15pm, allowing for a heavily curtailed contest.
But at the 6:02pm, the match officials finally had to call off the match, over two and a half hours after the starting time. As a result, Pakistan’s hopes to be back in a winning way by beating Bangladesh, before the real action that unfolds at the flagship event, ended. They are going into the World Cup on the back of a 4-0 series defeat to England, as well as a loss to Afghanistan in their first preparation match.
If they are to break out of their losing streak, they will have to take their chances against West Indies on May 31. Bangladesh, on the other hand, still have India to play against in the last warm-up match on Tuesday.
