One held over acid attack on housewife

Police held a man yesterday in connection with an incident of acid attack on a woman in Hakimpur upazila on Monday night. The victim has been identified as Morsheda Begum, 22, wife of Ilias Mia of Dakkhin Basudevpur village in the upazila. Police arrested Babul Hossain Mandal at around 4.00 am from Madhabpara village in the upazila. Family members said some criminals hurled acid on Morsheda through a window on Monday night when she was asleep at her room. She was taken to upazila health complex immediately.   Later, she was referred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital yesterday afternoon. ANM Rashedul Islam, residential medical officer of Hakimpur upazila health complex, said the left eye of the woman has been burnt by the acid. Harun Ur Rashid, inspector of Hakimpur police, said Ilias Mia, the husband, filed a case on Monday night.
