Two leaders of Awami League’s local bodies were killed in separate incidents in Rajshai and Bagerhat yesterday, report agencies. In Rajshahi, law affairs secretary of Rajnagar union unit Awami League, Abdul Mazed Sardar, 70, was chopped to death by some unidentified miscreants. Witnesses said a gang of criminals equipped with sharp weapons swooped on Sardar and killed him on the spot while he was returning home. Rafiqul Islam, OC of Rampal police, said the body was recovered from the spot and sent to sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately. In Bagerhat, organizing secretary of Hatemkha unit of AL, Aslam Hossain, was reportedly beaten to death at Luxmipur Paramedical road under Rajpara Police Station yesterday night. Mahmudur Rahman, Inspector of Rajpara Police Station, said that Aslam succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Police picked up one, Jahid Hossain, for interrogation in this connection. Quoting locals he said some people called him out from his residence and took to the area this evening. “Aslam might have been beaten to death by them,” Mahmud said. “We are investing into the incident to unearth the reason behind the killing and to bring the killers to book,” he added.
