Youth held with 10 gold bars
Chittagong District Police in a drive arrested a youth with 10 gold bars from a passengers bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Mirsarai upazila of the district on Monday. The arrested was Javed Hossain, 25, hailed from Sylhet district. Based on secret information, a team of Mirsarai Police raided a Sylhet-bound bus in front of Gulisthan Petrol Pump in the area and detained the youth with 10 gold bars kept inside his shoes, said Naimul Hasan, additional superintendent of police (ASP) of District Special Branch. A case was filed with Mirsarai Thana in this connection.

20,000 yaba tablets seized

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday arrested one alleged drug peddler along with 20,000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from Paltan area in the capital. The arrested were identified as Md Alamgir Hossain. Talking to The Independent yesterday evening, Deputy Police Commissioner Muntasirul Islam Rony said, getting secret information, a team of DB led by assistant commissioner Mahmuda Afroz Lucky raided at Paltan area in the capital. Later the DB team arrested Alamgir and according to his information, 20,000 pieces of yaba tablets were seized from his possession, he added. During the primary interrogation, he admitted that he was selling yaba in the capital for long times, said DC Rony.

Minor boy drowns

A minor boy drowned in a pond at Gandagohali village in Puthia upazila in Rajshahi on Monday. The deceased was identified as Abdullah, 5, son of Abul Kalam of the village. Family members said Abdullah drowned while taking bath in the pond near his house to the unawareness of his family members in the afternoon. Later, he was rushed to Puthia upazila health complex where attending doctors declared him dead.

Youth’s body found
Police recovered the body of a young man at Jhajor in Gazipur on Monday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman, 18, son of Kalimullah, a resident of Degerchala area. Locals spotted the body of Habibur on Monday noon and informed police. Later, a team of police from Joydebpur Police Station rushed in and recovered the body, said victim’s father.
