Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) president Abdul Kader Siddique filed a writ petition with the High Court yesterday challenging the legality of the cancellation of his nomination to contest the Tangail-4 by-polls, reports UNB.
An HC vacation bench comprising Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice Qazi M Ejaharul Haque Akand will hear the petition on Wednesday, said former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali who along with Rubayet Hossain stood for Kader Siddique.
Deputy attorney general Khorshedul Alam represented the state.
Earlier, on Monday, he claimed that state-run Agrani Bank made him a loan defaulter with tricks to have his nomination paper filed for contesting Tangail-4 polls cancelled.
“As per bank documents, I was not a loan defaulter on the day I submitted the nomination paper and also not the following day. But, later Agrani Bank Tangail branch sent a letter to the returning officer. This is how my
nomination paper and that of my wife have been cancelled,” he said.
The parliamentary seat-133 (Tangail-4) remains vacant since September 1 as sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique, elder brother of Kader Siddique, quit his parliament membership the day.
On October 11, KSJL president Abdul Kader Siddique and three other leaders of the party submitted nomination papers to contest the by-election billed for November 10.
On October 13, the Election Commission (EC) rejected the nomination papers submitted by Kader Siddique and his wife Nasrin Siddique on loan default charges.
On October 18, a five-member panel, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, also dismissed the appeals filed by Kader Siddique and Nasrin Siddique against the cancellation of their nominations.
