World Twenty20 superstar Chris Gayle will come for Barisal Bulls to enthrall the local fans in the new-look Twenty20 tournament of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
West Indian swashbuckling opener, Gayle, will be aided by his compatriots’ all-rounder Kevin Cooper and rookie Evin Lewis alongside Zimbabwean wicketkeeper-cum-batsman Brendon Taylor. They all will be fielded for Bulls’ success.
Rizwan Bin Faroque, one of the owners of the Barisal Bulls, revealed this at the team’s logo and theme song unveiling ceremony at a local hotel in the capital yesterday.
“We have signed a deal with South Africa Graham Ford, who will supervise our team in the BPL as the head coach. Ford was the former coach of Sri Lanka cricket team,” Faroque, who is also the owner of Axiom Technologies Ltd, told media.
Abdul Awal Chowdhury and Nazimuddin Ahmed, the owners of the team, attended the programme beside Faroque.
“Local players will get to know their capability through BPL. Along with that, I believe the Bulls will help to promote and inspire Barisal’s players, who are lagged behind in cricket rather than other region of the country,” Abdul Awal Chowdhury, who is now the chairman of BCB women’s wing, said in his welcome speech.
This is the first participating team’s programme, where Dhaka Dynamites owner Shayan F Rahman and team manager Athar Ali Khan along with Chittagong Vikings owner were present with BPL member secretary I H Mallick, BCB directors Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, Sheikh Sohel, Nazib Ahmed, BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury and singer Asif Akbar.
Barisal Bulls made Asif Akbar as their brand ambassador. Asif will enchant the theme song for Bulls. He fascinated the audience at the programme with the theme song titled “Barisal Bulls Kamal Kamal, Barisal Bulls Shamal Shamal.”
The curtain of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) third edition will be raised just after 32 days.
