Barisal Division registered a comfortable 150-run win over Sylhet despite the century of Zakir Hasan in the fourth round of the National Cricket League (NCL) yesterday at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.
The rest of the three matches in this round however ended in a draw at different venues across the country.
Barisal vs Sylhet
Barisal’s off-spinner Sohag Gazi claimed five for 112 to derail the chase of Sylhet who was finally bowled out for 297 runs, in pursuit of 448 in Tier-2 game. Zakir Hasan remained unbeaten on 137 off 292, hitting 20 boundaries.
They resumed the day 54 for two, with an aim to draw the match at least. As skipper Alok Kapali supported Zakir well, it seemed they could avoid the defeat. But the dismissal of Kapali on 56 runs, dashed their all hopes and triggered a collapse. Sohag Gazi’s five-for was complemented by Monir Hossain three for 71.
Salman Hossain and Sohag Gazi were jointly adjudged man of the match.
Rajshahi vs Chittagong
Opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto hit a patient 101 as Rajshahi were 272 for six before the stumps of the final day in Tier-2 game. The slow batting approach of the both sides batsmen almost made it confirm that the match was heading towards a draw. Finally it happened as there is no magic on the final day. Bangladesh Test team and Rajshahi skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was not out on 50.
Rajshahi were bowled out for 208 in its first innings after which Chittagong took a 142 runs lead by making 350 thanks to Tasamul Haque’s 134 not out. Left-arm spinner Sanjamul Islam snapped up eight for 106 in Chittagong’s first innings.
Dhaka vs Khulna
Dhaka grinded out a draw by scoring 233 for seven on the final day as Khulna came out vigorously to force for a victory in Tier-1 game. Resuming the day 37 for two in the chase of 470, they were watchful throughout the day.
Khulna were skittled out for 117 in its first innings and conceded a 37 runs lead as Dhaka made 154. But riding on centuries from Mehedi Hasan (104), Anamul Haque Bijoy (100) and Nurul Hasan Sohan (182*), they racked up 506 for seven before declaring the second innings.
Rangpur vs Dhaka Metro
Metro’s Mehrab Hossain Junior’s 109 runs was the highlight of their drawn match against defending champions Rangpur in Tier-1 game. Apart from his century Asif Ahmed Ratul scored 77 not out as Metro declared the second innings on 352 for seven, setting a 296 runs target for Rangpur. All of the 11 players of Rangpur however came to bowl in Metro’s second innings, making it a unique incident in domestic first class cricket. Rangpur were 72 for three before the umpired took off the bail for the final day.
