The ‘Players by Choice’ for the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be held at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel on Thursday at 10am.
The BPL governing council brought forward the Players by Choice from October 26 to 22 at the request of the franchises though it was primarily announced to be held on October 31.
With the foreign and local players, the six icon players of the Twenty20 tournament, such as Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah Ryad and Nasir Hossain, will be disbursed by lottery on the same day.
It was earlier announced that all the icon players will be allocated by mutual consent. But the most of the franchisee showed their desperate interest to rope in their respective icon and were not agreed to compromise.
In that aspect, the BPL governing council decided to settle the fate of the icon players by lottery before the allocation of the other players.
Acknowledging the matter, both I H Mallick and Jalal Younus said that they decided to bring forward the schedule of the Players by Choice for four days so that franchises get some days to interact with the recruited players.
“The ‘Players by Choice’ will now be held on Thursday at 10am,” said I H Mallick, member secretary of BPL governing council, adding “We are asked by the franchises to bring it forward so that all they could get some days to interact with
their recruited national players alongside overseas players before their national engagement.”
It is known from the BCB insiders that Zimbabwe are arriving in the first week of November. The national players will be called for their training ahead of the Zimbabwe series. In that sense, the franchises are getting very little time to sit with their players and engage them in their commercial activities.
“The BPL governing council will not take the payment responsibility for those players, who will be bought by franchisee out of their fixed prices enlisted in the main,” Jalal Younus, chairman of BPL technical committee, said.
