4 cops testify in Holey Artisan attack case

Four policemen who rushed to the scene with their colleagues as militants lay seize to upscale Holey Artisan Caf’ in capital’s Gulshan area on July 1, 2016, today testified before an anti-terror special court here in the case lodged under the anti-terror act over that incident.

The four hero policemen are former inspector (investigation) Wahiduzzaman, sub- inspector of Bhatara Police Station Faruk Hossain, assistant sub-inspector Sohagh Hossain and constable Pradip Chandra Das. Of the four, Wahiduzzaman and Faruk got seriously injured in the grenade blasted by the militants on that day. They submitted their depositions before Judge Md Mujibur Rahman of Dhaka Anti-terrorism Special Tribunal and were cross examined hereafter. The court after that set May 27 as the next date of hearing.

A total of 40 witnesses out of total 211 have so far testified in the case. Militants killed 20 innocent people, most of them foreigners, in the grisly attack in 2016. Two police officials valiantly laid down their lives while trying to save people there. Later, five militants were killed in a commando operation. Police filed the case under the anti-terror act with Gulshan Police Station. The trial initiated on November 26, 2018 by framing charges against the eight accused–Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, Rakibul Hasan Regan, Rashedul Islam alias Rash, Sohel Mahfuz, Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan, Hadisur Rahman Sagar, Shariful Islam and Mamunur Rashid.

IO testifies in blogger Wasikur murder trial

BSS, Dhaka

Investigation officer (IO) today testified a case lodged over the murder of blogger Wasikur Rahman Babu at Dhaka 3rd metropolitan magistrate court.

IO Shah Moshiur Rahaman, who is now working as assistant commissioner of police, testified in part before Dhaka 3rd metropolitan magistrate Robiul Alam. The court adjourned the hearing till May 28 as the witness couldn’t complete his testimony today. The court has so far examined 23 prosecution witnesses in the case.

Wasikur was murdered on his way to office from his Tejgaon Begunbari house on March 30, 2015.
