Digital Bangladesh is now a reality: Rezaul Karim

Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Sunday said digital Bangladesh is not only a dream, it is also a reality now.

“Rural students get their results at Union Digital Centre and they can apply to the various educational institutions through online for admission.” The Minister said rural people and land owners getting information over their land visiting the website of the ministries concerned. He was speaking as the chief guest at a meeting of district development coordination and monitoring committee at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in the morning.

Deputy Commissioner Abu Ali Md Sazzad Hossain chaired the meeting. Acting Police Super Mollah Azad Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr Md Faruq Alom, executive officer of Zila Parishad Rebeka Khan and Additional Deputy Commissioner Nahid Farjana Siddique were present at the meeting, among others.

The minister sought help from officials concerned to build beautiful Pirojpur at the meeting. He also urged people of the locality to promote development activities.

Later, Rezaul Karim joined a function arranged marking the anniversary of Bangla TV at Pirojpur Press Club.

Govt working for eliminating poverty, says Khasru

State Minister for fisheries and livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru on Sunday said the government has taken various safety-net programmes for eliminating poverty in the country.

“We are implementing various development programmes for lifting the people out of poverty,” he made the comments while distributing CI-Sheets and bank cheques among the poverty-stricken people in the conference room of Netrakona Sadar upazila parishad. Netrakona Sadar upazila parishad arranged the function for distributing 113 bundles of CI-Sheets and bank cheques amounting to Taka three lakh and thirty nine thousand among the poor people.

Chaired by upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Netrakona Sumonara Mojid, the function was addressed, among others, by chairman of Netrakona Sadar upazila parishad professor Tafsiruddin Khan and chairman of Medni union parishad Zillur Rahman Numan.

3 pharmacies fined in Jhenidah

A mobile court in Jhenidah fined three pharmacies Tk 50,000 in front of Jhenidah Sadar Hospital on Sunday.

The drive was conducted by an executive magistrate of the office of Deputy Commissioner Abu Saleh Mohammad Hasnat.

The mobile court sources said they conducted the drive when they were informed that a number of medicine shops charged additional price to the patients. The court fined Sahinur Rahman, owner of Siddique Pharmacy Tk 10,000, Waheduzzaman Bachchu, owner of Panna Pharmacy Tk 20,000, Jakir Hossain, owner of Matrichhaya Pharmacy Tk 20,000. Additional Superintendent of Police Masud Alam, Drug Superintendent Nazmul Hasan, among others, were present during the drive.

13 arrested in Chuadanga

Police arrested 13 youths along with a revolver, some bottles of phensidyle and two sharp weapons from an under construction building in Shantipara area of Chuadanga town yesterday.

Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jihad Fakrul Alam Khan said on secret information that some youths accused in different cases including robbery, killing, snatching and mugging were staying at an under construction building, the drive was conducted.

Police Super Mahbubur Rahman said they were holding meeting for preparation of robbery and anti-social activities. The arrestees are  Akash, son of Yousuf  Ali, Rahim, son of Sanwar Hossain, Golam Mostofa Modon, son of Ali Reja, Golam Rosul Titu, son of Ali Reja, Johir Uddin Badal, son of Amir Ali, Bahauddin, son of Jalaluddin, Evon Ali, son of Younus Ali, Kazol Mahmud, son of Sofur Ali, Pias Ali, son of Jahangir Ali, Ashraf Ali, son of Jahangir Ali of Shantipar, Al Amin, son of Apan Sheikh of Muslim Para, Kalu Sheikh, son of Anu Sheikh of Gulsanpara and Liton Ali, son of Babor Ali of Polashpara in the town.
