‘Batighar Theatre Fest 2015’ kicks off Oct 23

A four-day theatre festival titled ‘Batighar Natya Mela 2015’ (Batighar Theatre Festival) is set to kick off on October 23 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city. Batighar, a youthful and progressive theatre troupe in the country and a sister concern of Komashree Bhuban, is organising the festival with the slogan ‘Ashubher Binash Khone—Eso Mili Nat-Nandane’. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will inaugurate the festival as chief guest at 4pm on Friday, while BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, ITI president noted thespian Ramendu Majumder, noted theatre personality Aly Zaker will be present as special guests at the opening ceremony.
During the four-day festival, a total of seven productions by the notable and audience-admired theatre troupes of the country will be staged at the National Theatre Hall and Experimental Theatre Hall of Shilpakala. Besides, popular band music troupes Sarbanam, Joler Gaan and Meghdal will perform everyday at the open field of BSA before staging the plays.
The opening day of the festival will see the staging of Nagorik Natya Sampradaya’s ‘Dewan Gazir Kissa’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall. On the second day of the festival on Saturday, Batighar will stage its own production titled ‘Urnajhal’ at the National Theatre Hall, while BatTala will bring ‘Khona’ on the stage at the Experimental Theatre Hall.
‘Abong Vidyasagar (Aranyak) and ‘Andhakare Mithen’ (Aguntak) will be staged at the National Theatre Hall and Experimental Theatre Hall respectively on October 25.
On the closing day of the festival, Prachyanat will stage ‘A Man for All Seasons’ and Prangone More will come up with ‘Awrangajeb’.
All the plays of the festival have been scheduled to start at 7pm. l
