Six get life term for murders in 2 dists

Six people were sentenced to life term imprisonment in separate murder cases in Pirojpur and Meherpur yesterday. A court in Pirojpur sentenced a man to life term imprisonment yesterday for killing his son in 2010.
The convict is Atahar Ali, 60 of village Bildumuria in Nazirpur upazila of the district. The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six more months in jail. Nazim-Ud-Doullah, additional district and session judge of Pirojpur gave the verdict after examining witnesses and evidences. Court sources said on May 4 in 2010 at about 1.30 am, convict Atahar Ali hacked his sleeping son Md Masum to death. Hearing scream of Masum, convict’s brother Ershad Ali and some neighbours reached there.  Atahar Ali was caught and handed over to police.
Deceased’s wife Nupur Akter filed a murder case the same day against Atahar Ali with Nazirpur police station. After examining 18 witnesses the court pronounced the verdict.
In Meherpur, a court yesterday awarded life term imprisonment to five murderers in a much talked about three-murder case in a jam-packed court. The killings took place August 29, 1994 at village Jalshuka in Gangni upazila centering a land dispute.
The convicts are Nuruzzaman Laltu, the Khulna divisional chief of outlawed party Purbo Banglar Communist Party and resident of village Koyradanga in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga, two siblings --Younus Ali and Ekramul Haque -- of village Jalshuka in Gangni upazila and Abul Kashem and Masud Rana of the same village. Rest 26 accused were acquitted from the charges.
T M Musa, Additional District and Session Judge, examined the documents and witnesses and found them guilty.
The plaintiff of the case Jalaluddin, son of Showkot Malitha of village Jalshuka in Gangni upazila and Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Shahidul Haque expressed their dissatisfaction at the verdict saying they would appeal against the verdict and go to higher court.
