BCL faction now seeks ‘dope test’ for central leadership

The disgruntled faction of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) demanded a 'dope test' for members of its newly selected central executive committee, including its president and general secretary. On Wednesday, Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina ordered the BCL committee to make a list of 'controversial' members. After the list was published at night by the BCL central president and general secretary, a press conference was held yesterday by BCL activists who did not get any 'post' or 'desirable posts' on the recently formed committee.

On behalf of the 'underprivileged', Rakib Hossain, former committee's programme and planning affairs secretary, demanded that a 'dope test' be performed on the BCL's central leadership and committee members.

In the press conference, Saif Babu, former committee's publicity and publication secretary, read out a handwritten statement, where he expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Hasina for giving the order to reconstitute the Chhatra League committee.  "We're ready to give tough answers Sheikh Hasina's order is disobeyed in the name of reconstitution." he said.

Shahed Khan, general secretary of Kabi Jasimuiddin Hall's BCL wing, said: "We demanded reconstitution of the BCL committee. Our demand was logical. That's why the BCL president and general secretary yesterday were forced to prepare a list of 16 controversial leaders. In keeping with the clear instructions given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we the committee to be reconstituted."

After the press conference, they revealed the names of 99 persons who are on BCL's committee despite being unavailable.
