Do not publish sub-judice matter
SC authorities tell media

The Supreme Court authorities yesterday issued a notice asking the media not to publish any sub-judice matter in newspapers and televisions. Recently, it has appeared that some electronic media in their TV channels and some print media in their newspapers were broadcasting or publishing the proceeding of sub-judice cases, which is unprecedented. Amidst this situation, after being directed all concerned are requested to refrain from publishing any sub-judice proceedings of the cases, said the Supreme Court notice signed by High Court Registrar Md Golam Rabbani.
Talking to this correspondent, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, however, said the Supreme Court did not impose wholesale restriction on publishing all sub-judice matters.
Media can publish everything except those which will tarnish the image and dignity of the judiciary. If the report is tantamount to contempt of court, media cannot publish such type of reports. Following the publishing of report, if there is any possibility of contempt of court, the media cannot publish those reports. The media cannot publish the reports which may tarnish the image and dignity of the court, the chief law officer of the state said while explaining the Supreme Court notice. Excepting these all other reports can be published by the media, he added.
