BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday left Dhaka for Bangkok for health check up and medical treatment. Mirza Alamgir along with his wife Rahat Ara Begum left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Bangkok at 11:20am by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said BNP chairperson's media wing officer Shayrul Kabir Khan. The BNP leader will receive medical treatment at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok for various health complexities.
Mirza Alamgir has problems in his internal carotid artery. He is expected to return home on May 20. The BNP leader was granted bail by Supreme Court in 2015 for treatment abroad for the same problems when he was in jail. Party sources said, in his absence party standing committee members would look after the party activities in consultation with acting chairman Tarique Rahman, who is now in London in self exile.
BNP faces turmoil inside the party and its two alliances for the unileteral decision of Tarique Rahman to join parliament backtracking from earlier party decision of not taking part in the House.
