A court in the district is likely to deliver its judgment within the current month in the case for killing teenage boy Samiul Alam Rajon. A group of brutes beat the life out of the 13-year-old boy. The prosecution expected so. On the contrary, the defense said they would appeal to the High Court if the verdict went against them. On Sunday, Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court finished recording testimonies of the witnesses in the case in presence of 11 accused, including key accused Kamrul. Inspector of Detective Branch of police Suranjit Talukdar, also investigation officer of the case, gave deposition before the court. The court indicted all the 13 accused in the murder case on September 22. The court fixed October 25 for closing arguments. The recording of testimonies in the Rajon murder case started on October 1 and continued till 18 October. On October 15, key accused Kamrul was brought back from KSA. Later the next day he was produced before a court which sent him to jail fixing October 18 as the next date for hearing. Shawkath Ahmed, the lawyer for the plaintiff, said after the closure of the arguments, the court will fix the date for the judgment. “Fixing the final date for the judgment is a matter totally with the court, but we expect so,” he added. The same opinion was expressed by Mofur Ali, a public prosecutor. On 7 September, the Rajon murder case had been transferred to the Metropolitan Session’s Judge Court from the Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Earlier police pressed charges against 13 people, including prime accused Kamrul Islam, for their involvement in the killing. Later court acceptance the charge sheet on August 24. After the charge sheet was accepted, police confiscated wealth of two accused, including Kamrul and Shamim, following a court order.
On august 3, the court also ordered to publish an advertisement in newspapers asking to know whereabouts of the three absconding accused. In the charge sheet, police showed three accused, including Kamrul and 10 others, arrested. Kamrul had fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident. He was later caught by some Bangladeshi expatriates there and handed over to Saudi police. Investigation officer Suranjit Talukder submitted the charge sheet to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Shahedul Karim on August16. Apart from Kamrul, the other accused include Muhit Alam, Ali Haider, Nurul Amin, Dulal Ahmed, Nur Mia, Ayaz Ali, Badal, Firoz Ali, Shamim, Ruhul Amin, Pavel and Asmat Ali. Names of two detainees-- Lipi Begum and Ismail Hossain-- were dropped from the charge sheet as their involvement in the incident was not found.
