The negligence in the national team has become synonymous to the name of the Tigers’ old campaigner Imrul Kayes. But his fortune reportedly brought him back on the track. This time he has been deprived of naming him in Bangladesh World Cup squad despite having a good track record.
During the squad announcement, it was told from the team management they dropped Imrul Kayes for the combination of the team but the player didn’t break into pieces mentally rather he is preparing himself for the next games.
The team management brought him along with Soumya Sarkar to United Arab Emirates (UAE) when Bangladesh were in disarray in Asia Cup after losing in back-to-back matches to Afghanistan and India in disdainful manner that endangered almost their high hopes. But the batsman justified his selection and proved himself with the bat. In his first match, the left-handed batsman smashed an unbeaten 72 that paved the way of the Asia Cup final for the team, who placed Asia Cup final showdown for the second time since 2014.
“When I am in and out of the national team, I can learn many more things. It’s true in my case,” said Imrul Kayes, whose scores in the last five one-day international were 144, 90, 115, 4 and 0.
“I can realise when I am out of the national team. Again when I go back to the fold, I apply those things what I learnt while I am out of the team,” Kayes told media before their third day elite players skill camp at the entrance of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
“Actually I don’t feel bad for this rather I enjoy the thing and feel impetus to do big for the team,” he added.
When asked about his readiness to play for the World Cup like the Asia Cup, Imrul said that he is ready to play for the team at any position or any situation if it feels me.
“I’ve no problem to play for the World Cup. I abruptly went to play Asia Cup though it was really tough for me we all know that because I didn’t play international cricket for the last six months before that,” he said.
“It’s at least better for me as I could have stayed in practice. I am ready to play at any position or at any situation if the team deems me necessary for it,” he continued.
He pegged the skill camp for the players very effective and said that it will be very much helpful for the players ahead of their games.
“I’m out of the national for so long. The camp is very important for all because we’ve a lot of games ahead. We’ve new season ahead also. All take it seriously. I’m also enjoying it personally,” he said.
“If such camp is on, it’s possible to keep one ready. It’s easily handling the situation if the call from the national team is done unless it’s difficult for a player to play at the situation of the international cricket because the fitness of the international cricket and domestic cricket is totally different,” he also said.
“I think, we’re those who got chance in the camp are lucky enough. World Cup will be starting ahead. If any player is injured, in that case, the required player will be gone from the camp. We’re doing our camp seriously because none can tell anything what will be happened in the next,” he added.
“When such type of camp will be run consistently, the players will be ready for the games. Players will gradually be downed if they don’t stay in practice. When the performers in the premier league or other league will get chance, they will be inspired. I thanked to BCB to give us such an opportunity for the scope of practicing. We’re all sitting idle at home as we had no games in hand after the conclusion of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). Now we’re practicing here that is better for our career.”
