Two ‘drug dealers’ killed in ‘gunfight’

Two suspected drug dealers were killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Laboni Beach Point in the district town on early yesterday. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. A RAB-15 team raided the area around 4am after being tipped-off that drug peddlers were coming there via sea, said Rab-15 camp commanding officer Major Mehedi Hasan. The 'drug dealers' opened fire as soon as the RAB team reached the spot, triggering a skirmish, he claimed. After the gunfight, two bodies with gunshot wounds were recovered from the spot along with 10,000 yaba pills, a pistol and two bullets, the Rab officer said. The bodies were sent to a local hospital for autopsy.

Earlier, two Rohingya 'drug traders' were killed in a reported gunfight with police at Jadimura camp area in Teknaf upazila on Monday. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Alam, son of Bacha Miah of Noyapara camp and Mohammad Rafiq, son of Ali Hossain, a resident of Jadumara camp. Police said on information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area. Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight that left the duo dead on the spot.

Two sub-inspectors Sabbir and Babul and police constable Main Uddin were also injured while police also recovered two pistols, seven rounds of bullet and 2200 Yaba tablets from the spot.
