Family blames brother of DMP DC Imam Hossain
Man �beaten dead� at Maghbazar
An elderly man was allegedly beaten to death in the capitals Nayatola in Maghbazar on Saturday night by a group over land dispute. Shahidul, the man accused of leading the attack, is a brother of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Imam Hossain.
The deceased was identified as Shamsul Haque, 60, a resident of Nayatola.
Talking to reporters at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Md Falam, a brother of the deceased, said there was a longstanding dispute between his brother and Shahidul, brother of DC Imam Hossain, over the ownership of a piece of land.
Shahidul along with his associates on Saturday went to occupy the disputed land. They attacked Shamsul and beat him severely, leaving him critically injured, Falam claimed.
The injured was first taken to a local clinic and later he was shifted to DMCH, said locals. Shamsul succumbed to injuries at about 11:00 pm on Saturday, said Mojammel Hossain, in-charge of DMCH police camp.
Sub Inspector Jewel Miah of Ramna Police Station, who is investigating the matter, however, said that there was no mark of injury on the body. So far I know, the old man died of cardiac arrest but the actual cause of the death can be known after getting the forensic report, he added.
When contacted over the matter, DMP Media and Public Relations DC Muntasirul Islam said there was no involvement of the police official or the police force in the incident.
He said that there may have been a dispute over land ownership, but there was no involvement of police in the matter.
