Students block highway protesting extra semester fee
Protesters lock principal�s office, ransack class rooms, demanding
cancellation of additional fee

Several hundreds of students of Narsingdi Textile (Tant) Engineer Institution blocked Dhaka-Narsingdi road, locked the principals office and ransacked class rooms demanding cancellation of additional semester fee at Shaheprotab area in Narsingdi sadar upazila of the district yesterday morning. Police said about 400 students of Textile Engineer Department (Tant) Training Institution ransacked the class rooms, locked the office room of the
principal from 10:30 am to till 4 pm. Later they brought out a procession on the campus demanding cancellation of the additional tuition fee being charged by the principal of the institution. Later, the students blocked Dhaka-Narsingdi road at Shaheprotab point. Student also organised a protest meeting on the road with student leader Saddam Hossain in chair. The protestors claimed that the institution is government affiliated but Principal Matior Rahman has been collecting about Tk 5,000 more against the semester fee. The government fixed the fee at Tk 1,550 but the principal has been collecting Tk 6,350 from each student. He also misbehaves with students, the protesters claimed. When conducted Principal Matior Rahman said the institution is a non-government one, but it is under process of government affiliation. When it is affiliated he will charge fee according to the government rate. Later, at about 12 pm the students submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi demanding cancellation of the additional semester fees.
