Masterminds identified: DMP chief
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia yesterday claimed that police have identified the masterminds behind the killing of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella.
He said this while briefing representatives of different media outlets at the DMP Media Centre on the security measures taken for Durga puja across the city.
He also said that investigators have already identified the masterminds behind Cesares killing. About the progress of the investigation, the DMP chief said that they have been waiting for evidence relating to the murder. He, however, refused to divulge more details in this regard.
According to Asaduzzaman Mia, police achieved remarkable progress in the murder case and urged people to have confidence in their drives.
Three persons have been identified in connection with the murder. Two of them, Md Rasel and Tamjid Mohammad, belong to the Dhaka BNP unit.
Law enforcement agencies have detained a listed professional killer in connection with the killing. He was identified as Jewel alias Shooter Jewel, a resident of Shimoltula Bazar in the citys Badda area. It is learnt that he disclosed the names of some suspects along with the actual masterminds.
Local sources said Jewel had come to prominence after his gang killed another criminal, Hiron, way back in 2001.
Law enforcement officials are also looking for Alamgir and Laizuddin, two other members of the professional gang of killers. The sources said that the gang comprises contract killers and has been controlling the underworld of the entire Gulshan Badda area for a long time.
On September 28, Cesare Tavella was killed by three unidentified assailants in Gulshan diplomatic area in the city.
