VDP man killed in Rangamati gunfight
Army, ansar men hurt

A member of Village Defence Party (VDP) was killed while a military soldier and an ansar man sustained bullet injuries in an exchange of fire between joint force and criminals at Jarul Chhari under Bilaichhari of Rangamati district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as VDP member Mongpong Mro (34).
A joint force of Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh conducted a drive to find out missing tourists and guides at Jarulichhara in Rangamati around 12:00pm. During the drive, some unidentified miscreants fired targeting them while the joint force also fired back, said Officer-in-charge (OC) Sariful Islam of Ramu Police Station.
The infighting left the VDP man killed on the spot. Muhammad Kashem of Bangladesh Army and Ansar man Abdul Hannan sustained bullet injuries during the firing, said the OC.
An army helicopter carried the injured to Combined Army Hospital (CMH) in Chittagong, sources said.
Later in the afternoon more troops were deployed in the area to avoid any unwanted situation. Earlier on October 3, two Bangladeshi tourists along with their local guide went missing on the way to Bilaichari Raingkhyang falls.
The joint force had been conducting drives at the hilly areas since then.
