JU admission tests begin Oct 25

SAVAR: The admission tests for the first year honours courses of of Jahangirnagar University (JU) under 2015-16 academic session will begin October 25 and it will continue till November 2.
The admission tests will be held with six shifts in a day and all kinds of information related to admission test, including seat plan and results would be available both in SMS system and at JU website- www.juniv.edu.
The admission test for ‘A’ unit will be held on October 25, D unit on October 26, and tests for H and B units will be held on October 28.
On the other hand, admission test for E, F and G units will be held on October 29 while admission test for C unit will be held from October 31 to November 2.
It is mentioned that all kinds of electronic device, including mobile phone, calculator and clock, are prohibited to use into the exam hall to prevent fraud in admission test.
A total of 2, 26, 572 admission seekers have applied against 2, 000 seats under 6 units and two institutes at the admission tests this year while approximately 113 admission seekers will vie for each seat, JU deputy register (academic) told BSS.

39 admission seekers vie for a seat at IU

Islamic University authorities have received a total of 64,780 application forms for the first year honor’s courses of 2015-16 academic session against 1,695 seats at 25 departments under eight units of the university, admission committee sources said.
Thirty nine admission seekers will vie this year for a seat in the admission tests
scheduled to be held from November 15 to 19. The ‘A’ unit admission committee sources said that the unit authority has received a total of 2,159 forms against 240 seats at three departments, ‘B’ unit 14,280 forms against 415 seats at five departments, ‘C’ unit 12,966 forms against 225 seats at three departments, ‘D’ unit 8,898 forms against 135 seats at three departments, ‘E’ unit 9,205 forms against 235 seats at four departments, ‘F’ unit 2,010 forms against 100 seats at two departments, ‘G’ unit 9,661 forms against 300 seats at four departments and in ‘H’ unit 5,601 forms against 140 seats at two departments.

RUET goes on Puja vacation today

RAJSHAHI: All scheduled classes and examinations of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) will remain closed from October 19 to 24 on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja and Holy Ashura.
A press release signed by Mosharraf Hossain, registrar-in-charge of
RUET, here yesterday said the university will remain closed for five-days to mark the Saradiya Durga Puja from October 19 to October 23 while it will remain closed on October 24 for Holy Ashura.
However, emergency services will be available in a limited scale during the period. All the academic and administrative activities will resume on October 25 as usual, the release added.

Seminar on prevention of sexual harassment

SYLHET: A seminar titled ‘building awareness to prevent sexual harassment’ was held on Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus. The seminar began at 3pm and continued till 4pm at the mini-auditorium of the university.
Bangladesh National Women Lawyer Association (BNWLA) organised the programme in association with UN WOMEN where more than 200 teachers and students from different departments took part. Akhtarul Islam, professor of  CEP department; Adv Shirin Akter, Sylhet Divisional head of  BNWLA;  Tahmina Islam, associate professor of  Social Work department; Ataur Rahman, junior expert of  BNWLA, addressed the programme.

RUET to host int’l conference Nov 4  

RAJSHAHI: A three-day International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ICEEE)-2015 is going to be held in Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) from November 4. Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of RUET will organise the ICEEE in order to take the technological growth one step forward more as engineering and technology play a pivotal role in the development of today’s world.
The conference is expected to provide a highly interactive platform in which leading experts and researchers in the field of electrical and electronic engineering can discuss recent scientific advances and seek cooperation from all over the world.
More than eight renowned professors from United States and America, Australia, China, Malaysia and India are likely to join the conference. Prof Dr Abdur Razzaque, chairman of preparatory Committee of the conference, told journalists that registration process was completed with participation of a large number of students and professionals from both home and abroad. A total of 258 research papers were also submitted and selection committee has finalised 80 of those for presentation.
The ICEEE aims at focusing the rapid strides and technological advancements in EEE in recent years. It aspires to open a forum for technical excellence and exchange of technology between technocrats, research scholars, and representatives from the academia and industry. “We aim to bring together more than 300 worldwide leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars,” he added.
Widespread research and innovative practices are propelling the world to a new plateau of development. Various modern issues like microwave and radio frequency, electrical machine, optical fiber communication, instrumentation and measurement,
electro-magnetic field, power plant and high voltage engineering, smart power grid, multimedia system and image processing are likely to be discussed elaborately in the three-day conference.  

Queen Mary University team meets UGC chief

Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is wiling to establish academic and research collaboration with the leading universities of Bangladesh.
The interest was shown when a 4-member delegation from Queen Mary University of London, led by its Vice-Principal (International) Professor David Sadler, called on UGC Chairman Abdul Mannan at the latter’s office yesterday. Other members of the delegation, included Nabeel Vehra, regional manager, QMUL, Professor Frances Bowen, deputy head of School of Business, QMUL and Faisal Tariq, School of Electronics and
Engineering, QMUL.
UGC Members Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Abul Hashem, Md Akhtar Hossain, Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah and UGC Secretary Md Khaled, among others were present.
UGC Chairman assured the delegation of extending necessary cooperation in this regard. Other aspects of higher education including faculty development and joint research collaboration came up for the discussion.

Indian team calls on DU VC
A 10-member students’ team from India, Bhutan and Armenia led by Pradip Chopra, Chairman of the Institute of Leadership Entrepreneurship & Development (ILEAD), West Bengal, India  called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office yesterday.
The team members were - Almas Khan, Saksi Ahmed, Md Sohail Anwar, Abhimanyu Jalan, Umar Reyaz, Siddharth Gupta, Soumyo Das and Suresh Chandra (India), Madhukar Darnal (Bhutan) and Andranik Matevosyan (Armenia).
During the meeting, they discussed various issues including strengthening the on-going joint collaborative academic and research programmes between the University of Dhaka and the Institute of Leadership Entrepreneurship & Development (ILEAD), India.
Prof Arefin apprised the team members of the history of Dhaka University as well as various democratic movements in Bangladesh including the Liberation War and Language Movements.
He said Dhaka University played a pioneering role in all those movements and linked itself directly with the national identity.
The VC also recalled with gratitude the all-out support and cooperation of Indian government, people and media during the Liberation War in 1971.
