Minor girl found hanging

UNB, Sylhet

Police recovered the hanging body of a minor girl from a locked room at Singerbazar in Bishwanath upazila on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Khadija Begum, the four and a half years daughter of van driver Shahinur Rahman of Beer Kalas village in Dakshin Surma Upazila.

Victim's mother Sumona Begum said she along with her daughter and son was sleeping in the morning when her husband went out for work. Later, she did not find her daughter on the bed. She informed the matter to her husband and they along with the locals started searching the girl and found her hanging in a locked room of the abandon house of expatriate Abdus Salam.

Ex-Jamaat MP Shahjahan Chowhdury held

Detectives arrested former Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami MP Shahjahan Chowdhury and some other party leaders in the city on Tuesday night. A team of Detective Branch of picked Shahjahan, also city Jamaat Ameer, and others from Chandanpur Darul Ulum Madrasa, said Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Mahabubor Rahman. He said they were interrogating the Jamaat men. Shahjahan faces about 50 violence cases, police said.

5 Ansar al-Islam men held in city

BSS, Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested five members of the banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam also known as Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from city’s Jatrabari area on Tuesday.

DMP sources said the arrested were Md Saifullah, 26, Md Abdul Alim, 22, Md Fayzullah, 18, Md Jahirul Islam, 19, and Md Mainuddin Sajib, 19. A total of 20 detonators and two machetes were recovered from them, DMP Deputy Commissioner (DC) (Media) Masudur Rahman told BSS on Wednesday.
