Guidelines for controlling aquatic medicinal products introduced

State Minister for Fisheries and Live Stock Narayan Chandra Chanda, on Saturday expressed his satisfaction at the introduction of guidelines for the control of Aquatic medicinal products (AMP) for sustainable shrimp sector in Bangladesh, reports BSS from Khulna.
Functioning of a control system for AMP is a prerequisite for overall quality assurance system to produce safe fishery products, he said. He also said control on Veterinary medicinal products (VMP) is very important to sustain our exports as well as to safeguard public health.
BEST (Better Work and Standards) program of United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and Government of Bangladesh jointly organised an awareness program on control of Aquaculture medicinal product at Ava convention Centre, Khulna.
Funded by European Union and NORAD, the purpose of the programme was to create awareness among different stakeholders in Fisheries Sector for responsible use of Aqua medicinal products.  Aquaculture sector of Bangladesh has been recommended by importing nations to develop a control procedure on responsible use of aqua medicines to meet the international compliance requirement.
Chaired by the Principal Scientific Officer of Department of Fisheries (DoF) Nittya Ranjan Biswas, the programme was addressed, among others, by deputy director of DoF of Khulna division Md  Muniruzzaman, Vice-President of Frozen Foods Exporters Association Sheikh Abdul Baki, Deputy Director of Aquaculture Dr Gulzar Hossain, National Project Director, BEST project, Dr Saleh Ahmed, and KR Hasan.
A total of 120 participants from Department of Fisheries, Directorate of Drug Administration, Drug Association, Bangladesh Frozen Food Export Association, Hatchery Association, Farmers Association, Feed millers were present.
