Fire breaks out at CMCH

UNB, Chattogram

A fire broke out at Chittagong Medical College Hospital yesterday. Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service, said that the fire broke out at ward number 16 around 10:45am.Ten vehicles of four firefighting units are trying to extinguish the fire. “The fire is under control now,” Jasim said, adding that there has not been any report of casualties. Dr Md Akhterul Islam, deputy director of the hospital, said that the fire broke out from an air conditioner.

CDA chief Jahirul takes charges

M Jahirul Alam Dovas, vice-president of Chottogram city unit Awami League, took charge as the chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) on Monday. The government appointed M Jahirul Alam Dovas, son of late Awami League leader Jane Alam Dovas, as new chief of the CDA replacing Abdus Salam. Officials and employees of CDA received the newly-appointed chairman with bouquet at CDA gate. After assuming the office, the chairman said he would put in maximum efforts to value the trust entrusted upon him by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the proper development of the port city.

BSU gets new committee

Bangladesh Student Union (BSU) have announced 41-member new central executive committee for the next one year. Mehidi Hasan Nobel and Anik Roy were made new president and secretary respectively of the new central executive body. The new executive body was announced after the four daylong 39th national council held at the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Monday. The other office bearer are – Vice President Deepak Sheel, Johorlal Roy, Tamzid Ahmed Turjo, Abhijit Barua, Nadim Mahmud, Abdul Halim, Ashzadul Borhan Tahzib Anik, Joint Secretary Rajib Kumar Das, Summaya Shetu, Ariful Islam Anik, Organising Secretary Monishi Roy, Treasurer Joy Roy, Office Secretary Foizur Mehidi, Education and Research Secretary Nazir Amin Choudhury Joy, Science and Technology Secretary Tasin Mallik, School Affair Secretary Mong Shoi Shoi, Publicity and Publication Secretary Kafil Uddin Mohammad Shanto, Cultural Secretary Ragib Nayeem, Social Welfare Secretary Oishorya Ahmed and Sports Secretary Mahir Sahriyar Reza.

100 illegal structures evicted

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) authorities in a drive on Monday evicted more than 100 illegal temporary structures in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area in the city. DNCC Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar led the mobile court from 11am to 2pm on Janata Tower Road, said a press release. In the drive, around 15,000 square foot area was recovered for public movement. DNCC panel Aleya Sarwar Daisy and Zone-5 regional executive officer Meer Nahid Ahsan were present during the drive.

Five robbers arrested

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB 1) Gazipur Purabari camp under Gazipur city arrested five robbers from Joina Bazar area of the district while they were taking preparation for robbery. The arrested were identified as Mohammed Mansarul Islam Tamim, 25 of Sreepur  upazila, Mohammed Mostafa Kamal, 28, Mohammed Nazmul Hasan, 35,   Mohammed Nurul Amin, 30, Shahariar Kajol, 39. Commander of RAB-1 Purabari camp lieutenant commander Abdullah AL Mamun said, they arrested them while they were taking preparation for robbery in the area. The RAB-1 members seized a motorcycle, three knives, a pipe guns, five round of bullets, five mobile phone sets and Tk 31,780 from their possession.
