The call rate for Grameenphone (GP) subscribers is set to go up by 5 paisa a minute as per a decision taken by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) yesterday for the operator being a significant market power (SMP). As per the decision, GP customers will have to pay a minimum of Tk 0.50 a minute excluding value-added tax (VAT) and surcharge whereas the current minimum call rate for operators is Tk 0.45 a minute and after adding the VAT and other duties the charge goes up to Tk 0.54 to any operator. Due to the latest decision, the minimum call tariff for the GP subscribers would be Tk 0.50 per minute excluding value added taxes, supplementary duty and surcharge. The rate, however, will remain unchanged for other operators.
