Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to bring change to the newly-designed jersey of the Bangladesh team for the ensuing ICC Cricket World Cup-2019 that raised a huge backlash on social media after being unveiled. The BCB made an announcement of change to the jersey 24 hours after its appearance in public.
Not having red colour in jersey, it’s being told that it is similar to Pakistan and Ireland jersey and raised a barrage of criticism on social media.
The matter was discussed when Bangladesh team went to Ganabhaban to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on an invitation for a lunch.
“We held talks with Akram that we want a new design of jersey. Then we laid out the new design of the jersey. It was just reverse to the last and the trousers will have red stripe. That’s the basic,” said Nazmul Hassan Papon.
“There is no chance to be confused. We can fix it right now if we wish. That was done earlier. We’ve seen you it from where we’ve removed red on the request of the ICC. After removing red colour, basically there was no red anywhere in jersey and that’s the issue,” Papon told this at a press conference arranged within a short notice at the Beximco Pharma office in the capital yesterday.
“ICC told us to send an alternative jersey design to the World Cup committee concerned. When we send it, ICC approves of those immediately. Then they informed that the writing of Bangladesh and number of red colour in green jersey will not be used. You have to whiten it. Then working committee decided to remove the red from two places. It does not come back to the working committee after being finalised as there is a time limit. For this, it has directly been sent to ICC and got their approval.
The BCB president said that to look after the jersey they have a committee who select the design and send it to International Cricket Council.
