Bangladesh women’s team fast-bowler Jahanara Alam is scheduled to leave Dhaka for India to play Women’s T20 Challenge on May 2. The three-team tournament for the women’s cricketers coined by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is slated to start in Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur on May 6.
Jahanara will play for the newly-formed team Velocity led by Mithali Raj. The Bangladesh pacer is one of the four overseas players of her team including Amelia Kerr (New Zealand), Danielle Wyatt (England) and Hayley Mathews (West Indies).
Bangladesh’s first foreign women team head coach Mamta Maben will guide them as the head coach. Jahanara’s Velocity will begin their new mission against Trailblazers at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in the Pink City on May 8 before fighting it out with Supernovas on May 9.
Jahanara Alam told The Independent that she will fly to India to play Women’s Twenty20 Challenge on May 2. “I’m delighted to get the opportunity of playing in Women’s Twenty20 Challenge in India,” said Jahanara Alam.
“I’ll fly to Jaipur, Rajasthan in India on May 2 to the four-match tournament of the Women’s T20 Challenge for Velocity,” Jahanara said.
Following the success of the 2018 Women’s Exhibition Match played in Mumbai prior to 2018 VIVO IPL Qualifier 1, this year sees the concept return on a larger scale. The Women’s T20 will be made up of three teams playing four matches in Jaipur as standalone games during the 2019 VIVO IPL Playoff week. The teams will comprise current and future stars of Indian cricket playing alongside a selection of the world’s best players. The combined strength of talent on display will showcase the quality of women’s cricket.
