Bangladesh ensured the top spot of Group B when they defeated Kyrgyzstan by 2-1 in the Bangamata Under-19 Women’s International Gold Cup football tournament yesterday at the Bangabandhu Natioanl Stadium.
Sanjida Akhter and Krishna Rani scored one each in both ends to steer the hosts to win the match while Zairina reduced one for Kyrgyzstan. The victory was not in doubt from the moment of kick-off when the hosts broke the deadlock just on 30 seconds after the first whistle.
From the beginning they had five players in attack with backing by four midfielders looking like to make sure their job of scoring goals as early as possible and also took the lead on just 30th second but interestingly playing almost one-sided match for rest of the 90 minutes time they score only one goal more.
It was though almost like a gifted goal by Kyrgyz keeper Tolonova but hosts girls certainly should have credits for quick attack with Krishna’s smooth move down the left wing right after the kick-off through to score the first goal, though her attempt was almost blocked, but it was shiny finish by Sanjida with a close range shot just on 30 seconds after the first whistle (1-0).
A good attempt against the crossbar and away but the substitute Marzia was in class for much of the game after being replaced when she threatened several times with strong progress towards post.
However, Bangladesh could have at least half a dozen goals lead in the opening 45 minutes, but all their attempts were off targets when they initiated the missing trial from 13th minute with Krishna Rani wasted the chance to double the lead when her close range effort missed the side post.
Krishna then lost her agitation twice before to give finishing touch when her second attempt was a close range header on a Sanjida cross but narrowly missed the side post on 24th and then on 29th minute she could not beat goalkeeper one on one situation from inside the area.
Marzia was about to double the lead but her powerful right foot effort was against the crossbar on 35th minute.
Bangladesh squandered two consecutive opportunities from very closely when Sanjida being unmarked sent the ball over the cross piece off a Marzia cross on 44th minute and Marzia after brilliantly dribbled past the defenders narrowly missed the side post in the next minute.
Bangladesh began the second half with making blunder inside the second minute after the break and Krishna again failed to keep her cool and shot the ball on the side-net.
Krishna finally found the net on 60th minute taking the advantage of keeper’s failures when she headed home from a handshake distance after keeper failed grip perfectly a Snajida’s shot (2-0).
Kyrgyzstan reduced one goal on 69th minute against the run of the match when Bangladesh girls’ lost the ball possession going to appeal for a foul at the midfield but referee avoided, Zairina receiving the ball in open space finished well when goalkeeper Rupna Chakma could keep the ball in her globs (1-2).
Rest of the time was also a story of Bangladesh players’ missing trial when they wasted four chances very closely.
