Man ‘kills’ mother, grandmother

A woman and her mother were allegedly stabbed to death by his ‘mentally retarded’ son at Nauda village in Maheshpur municipality area early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Marjina Khatun, 55 and her mother Shamsunnahar, 70 of the village.
Rashedul Alam, officer-in-charge of Maheshpur Police Station, said Imran Hossain, 22, a ‘mentally retarded’ son of Marjina used to hit Marjina and Shamsunnahar over giving him medicine.
Imran had an altercation with his mother and grandmother as they tried to give him medicine around 3 am.
At one stage, Imran stabbed Marjina and Shamsunnahar indiscriminately, leaving them critically injured.
Later, they were taken to Jashore Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors declared them dead.
Marjina used to live at her parent’s house as she got divorced with her husband.
6 criminals arrested with arms

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-11 in a special drive arrested six alleged terrorists from Satirpara Shibbag area under Narsingdi Pourashava on Thursday evening.
The arrested persons were identified as Anisul Hoque, 30, Raju Bomik, 30, Masudmiah, 30, Papon Miah, 23, Fazla Rabbi, 26 and Mohammed Rabbi, 24.
RAB said, on secret information, an operation team of RAB-11 raided the Satirpara Shibbag area last evening and arrested them with the arms and ammunitions.
RAB also recovered one foreign revolver, 120 round bullets, one Chinese axe, one chapati and sharp knife from their possession, RAB said.
Lightning kills one in Thakurgaon

A housewife was killed and another injured by a lightning strike at Beergor village in Haripur upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nilufar Begum, 25, wife of Murtuza of the village.
Quoting family members, Amiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station, said the thunderbolt struck them while they were grazing cattle around 11:30am, leaving Nilufar dead on spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, the OC added.
Mother, son electrocuted

An elderly woman and her son died from electrocution at Uttar Para in Jibonnagar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Ashura Khatun, 60 and her son Omar Ali, 28 of the village.
Local people said Rubina, wife of Omar came in contact with a live electric wire first at her house early in this morning. Samir Ali, husband of Ashura and Omar came to save Rubina and got electrocuted.
Later, four of them were taken to Jibannagar Upazila Hospital where the duty doctor Mahamuddin Hedayet Setu declared Ashura and Omar dead.
Agri-input distributed among farmers in Jashore

Keshobpur upazila administration of the district and local office of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) jointly distributed agri-input including seeds and fertilizer among marginalised farmers.
Under the incentive programme, these agricultural inputs were distributed among 430 poor farmers at Keshobpur Upazila Parishad for Aush paddy cultivation. Each farmer has got five kilograms (kg) seeds of paddy, 15-kg DFP fertilizer and 10-kg MOP fertilizer. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mizanur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer Mohadeb, officials of different organisation concerned, among others, were present on the occasion.
