Six walk to gallows for killing administrative officer

A court here yesterday sentenced six to death and another to life term imprisonment for killing administrative officer of Dhaka Deputy Commissioner's office Aminul Haque Khadem alias Anis Khadem in 2009.

The condemned convicts are- Mahabub Alam Liton alias Dat Bhanga Liton, Sheikh Shamim Ahmmed, Md Jewel, Kamal Hossain Biplob and Sohel alias Cats Eye Sohel while the lifer is Abdullah Mohammad Nazim Uddin Babu alias TNT Babu, alias Chula Babu. Among them Liton, Biplob and Babu were tried in absentia.

The court also fined Babu Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer one year more in jail. According to the prosecution, Aminul Islam Khadem was gunned down by the convicts in front of Malibagh Shahi mosque on May 3, 2009 over grabbing property of a mazar.

Later, his son Saidul Haque Khadem filed a murder case with Motijheel Police Station on May 4. Mujibur Rahman, member of Rapid Action Battalion-3, submitted chargesheet accusing eight people on November 30, 2009.

After examining all the records and 17 witnesses, Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal no-4 Judge Abdur Rahman Sarder handed down the verdict acquitting one accused.
